ABSTRACT

The assembly of soil data resulting from the preliminary studies, review of historical information, and recent field data collection often produces a wide variety of knowledge. This chapter focuses on several aspects of data management. Valid data presented in a suitable format often will result in a greatly reduced effort on the interpreter’s task. Proper data management procedures are important to assure that each piece of available data is presented in a manner which allows interpretation in light of the other known facts. Sample or date locations may be effectively illustrated on a topographic map. Topographic maps are an important ingredient for accurate data interpretation. Tabular presentations of both raw and sorted data are useful means of data presentation. Various tabular and graphical methods are available for data presentation. The chapter presents a general summary of some of the most common data organization methods.
