ABSTRACT

In the examples presented throughout this book ‘good statistical practice’ has for the most part been studiously avoided. The reason for this is simply to allow an uncluttered presentation of the current technique. Real data, as used here and unlike concocted data, almost always require more careful analysis than straightforward application of standard methodology. However, risking scorn from the experienced statistician, we have avoided getting bogged down in side issues, important though they may be in practice. We mention now briefly a few of these issues.
