ABSTRACT

The urogenital system includes the organs that produce, transport, and store liquid waste, together with the female or male reproductive organs. The female genital or reproductive organs are the ovaries, uterine tubes, uterus, vagina, vestibule, and vulva. The feline kidney is proportionately larger than that of the dog, and has the typical smooth “bean” shape usually associated with this organ. Thus, renal hemorrhage or rupture of the ureter may result in localized collection of fluid near the dorsal body wall rather than diffusion of the fluid among the abdominal organs. The penile urethra courses through the full length of the organ and opens to the exterior on the distal tip of the penile glans at an opening termed the urinary meatus. The entrance of the ureters and the exit of the urethra together define a triangular area at the caudal aspect of the bladder termed the vesicular trigone.
