ABSTRACT

From the beginnings, the conceptual approach of attribution theory has become incorporated into the study of virtually all aspects of psychology, from clinical to cognitive, from the examination of schizophrenia to an understanding of schema. Attributional interpretation has spread beyond its psychological boundaries. However, consider the allocation of responsibility in organizational settings, where organizational structure can influence moral inferences. Putting attribution theory in the context of organizational behavior should be of great benefit not only to the individuals working within the field, but also to the attribution theorists who have approached the conceptual framework with a rather narrow outlook. Hence, people are sympathetic to someone living in a totalitarian society, someone with a debilitating handicap, or the very aged. There are relations between cognitive appraisals and emotions, such that thoughts are sufficient determinants of feelings.
