ABSTRACT

Expert systems are the most emphasized area in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and represent the leading edge of commercialization in computer science. The knowledge of an expert system consists of facts and heuristics. The facts constitute a body of information that is widely shared, publicly available, and generally agreed upon by experts in a field. The development of any program in AI involves a great deal of computer programming. The performance level of an expert system is primarily a function of the size and quality of the knowledge base that it possesses. Specifications for manufactured products are influenced by a variety of factors, including governmental regulations, liability, consumer requirements, and economics. These factors often change, resulting in a modification of quality assurance requirements. Production systems solve problems by searching through the space of possible problem states that correspond to the condition of the problem at each stage of its solution.
