ABSTRACT

Rounding procedures depend on whether the number to the right of the "rounding place" is less than 5, equal to 5, or greater than 5. The procedures also vary depending on whether the entire number being rounded is less than one or greater than one. The rounding procedures are slightly different for numbers rounded to the left of the decimal point than for numbers rounded to the right of the decimal point. There is only one difference in rounding procedures for place values to the right of the decimal point. The process of rounding to a specified number of significant figures is not much different than rounding. However, rather than rounding to a given place value people must first locate the desired significant figure as the "rounding point". Many water and wastewater calculations involve strictly multiplication and division.
