ABSTRACT
A description is given of the development of Plaxis from its early days as a research tool at Delft University of Technology to more recent technical and commercial developments. This brief history of the program seeks to highlight some of the important technical issues that were addressed in the development of Plaxis. A discussion is also given of the commercial development of the program and the formation, in 1993, of Plaxis BV.
