ABSTRACT

Revetments of inland waterways or in coastal protection works have been developed from long tradition and local experience. Modifications were made due to new knowledge. The durability of revetments is governed by the stability of the surface against hydraulic impact and the overall stability including the subsoil Furthermore the design has to take into consideration filter stability. The contribution concentrates on the geotechnical stability of revetments, namely the failure modes and the chances and limits of finite element calculation.
