ABSTRACT

Species of Pseudogibbirhynchia Ager are similar to those of Gibbirhynchia Buckman, but internal characters differ. They may be compared with those of the subfamily Cirpinae and specially with the genus Cirpa De Gregorio. Pseudogibbirhynchia is known from the Toarcian of the Mid-European Platform and North Tethyan Realm (Catalonia, Iberic Cordillera), and also from the Toarcian and Early Aalenian of the central and eastern High Atlas. It exists also in Portugal (north Lusitanian Sub-basin) where it is associated with Zeilleria sharpei Choffat, with terebratulids (the genera Telothyris Alméras & Moulan, and Stroudithyris Buckman) and rhynchonellids referred to the genera Soaresirhynchia Alméras and Nannirhynchia Buckman. The present paper describes the characters of three species (P. moorei, P. jurensis, P. bothenhamptonensis) and their evolution in the Portuguese Toarcian.
