ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews three major examples of traditional aspect models: the CIMsteel project, part of the ESPIRIT program sponsored by the European Community; the COMBINE project in energy modeling, part of JOULE, another European Union project; and Part 225, building elements using explicit shape representation. The CIMsteel project was a major initiative under the European Community's EUREKA umbrella. CIMsteel integration standards/1 is based on version 4 of the logical product model, a model which was incrementally developed and tested by the CIMsteel project. COMBINE was part of the JOULE Programme, which focused on the rational use of energy. COMBINE had two phases. First phase which ran from 1990 to 1992; and next phase which ran from the end of 1992 to the middle of 1995. Part 225 relies heavily on entities defined in Parts 041, 042 and 043. Part 225 demonstrates how integrated resources may be adopted to achieve integration goals without defining a large model from scratch.
