ABSTRACT
We collect here some basic information about topics which, while not explicitly under study, are needed in what follows. In addition to providing a convenient reference for this material, this chapter serves to establish some of our notation. Since most of the ideas discussed here will be familiar to the reader, we suggest that this chapter not be worked through in detail to begin with but rather be referred to when necessary.
