ABSTRACT
The reaction of primary amines with acetophenone requires a selective catalyst, as acetophenone will readily hydrogenolyze to ethyl benzene.
The main purpose of this investigation deals with the one-step reductive alkylation of aniline with acetophenone to form N-phenyl-α-methylbenzylamine. Sulfided noble metal catalysts, solvents and various temperatures were investigated.
