ABSTRACT
The paper describes a new technique for manufacturing extruded Raney® 1 catalysts suitable for fixed-bed applications. Raney® Ni and Cu catalysts were prepared by this method and were evaluated for the hydrogenation of toluene, 2-ethyl-2- hexenal, and 1,4-butadiene, and the dehydrogenation of 2-butanol to methyl ethyl ketone (2-butanone). The extruded Raney® catalysts were superior to granular Raney® catalysts and other conventional catalysts with similar compositions.
