ABSTRACT
The success of cellular manufacturing depends on teamwork. Teamwork is also important for improvement activities. A group of employees has more creative potential and energy than any person working on a problem alone. Establishing basic workplace conditions is an essential first step in creating a manufacturing cell. In many companies, employee teams use the 5S system to improve and standardize workplace conditions for safe and effective operation. The 5S system is a set of five basic principles that have names beginning with S: sort, standardize, set in order, sustain and shine. Visual management is an important support for cellular manufacturing. Sharing information through visual tools helps keep production running smoothly and safely. Autonomous maintenance refers to activities carried out by shopfloor teams in cooperation with maintenance staff to help stabilize basic equipment conditions and spot problems early. Activity boards and one-point lessons are various useful approaches for making information public.
