ABSTRACT

Cognitive psychology returned to the forefront of psychological theory early in the mid 1980s. Following behaviorists’ utter denial of cognition as a useful pursuit in the 1920s, it all but disappeared from the psychological scene for 60 years. “ 'Conscious ness,’ wrote John Watson, 'is nothing but the soul of theology’” (Baars, 1988, p. 7).
