The Characteristic Polynomial

Tbe zeros of a polynomial are not necessarily real numbers. For example, the simple polynomial + 1 has two zeros, but

neither is a real number. Exercise: find all the zeros of the polynomials Pi(x) = X* — 6 and Pj(x) = x’ + 1.
