ABSTRACT

Commitment to Concurrent Engineering (CE) and to changing the old methods is the most important factor in managing the new approach. Once a company has introduced CE, it needs to maintain the impetus of the new philosophy and set up a task force each time a new project is started. Reorganization of offices or the erection of new buildings to house the task forces is also beneficial and signals that senior management is dedicated to CE on a long-term basis. Vice presidents should be ready to foster whatever changes are needed to improve the effectiveness of CE, and whatever investment in training and new equipment is required. Management must emphasize that every action in the corporation has but one goal — to improve business performance, which ultimately means greater profits. Product design engineers should also be trained in limitations and details of relevant production techniques. Manufacturing engineers should be trained to approach their work from a viewpoint of added value.
