ABSTRACT

If there is one tool or technique that stands in the tool box of quality tools, it is without a doubt the Flowchart. A Flowchart is a graphic representation of the flow of work. It is a map of what occurs. There are several kinds of flowcharts; however, one type is most often used and will be referred to in this workbook as "flowchart." The flowchart shows the order of work, what takes place, and even who is doing it at times. The flowchart is an outstanding tool to share with associates new to the organization, for they can then readily see what actually takes place in a process. A basic understanding of the differences in the four types of "flowcharts" and a working understanding of some of the symbols used in flowcharting are required. The four types of flowcharts are: Top-down flowchart, Flowchart, Work-flow diagram and Responsibilities work chart.
