ABSTRACT

The report is the knowledge module on which decisions are based. Cost reporting is the output of a Project Costing System. The reports reflect the adequacy of the system. This chapter shows how reports relate to a control sequence. It shows the cybernetic aspect of graphic presentation and the type of charts and graphs including the rules that help to identify graphic distortions. The chapter demonstrates the importance of having an expert Cost Management System installed as a requirement for timely reporting that is conducive to action. It establishes a reporting structure that avoids overlap and duplication through the use of the work breakdown structure. The chapter identifies misleading information that may unintentionally enter the system and give warning. A good management reporting system would make use of all three types of reports. The mix depends on the level of management within the organization.
