Microcrystalline cellulose is classified as a tablet and capsule diluent, tablet disintegrant, and suspending and/or viscosity-increasing agent. Carboxymethylcellulose is used as a suspending agent and emulsifying agent in the preparation of gels and is widely used in foods.
