ABSTRACT

Analytical techniques and computer technology have played an important part in the creation and development of systems in construction engineering and management in the past two decades. The construction industry, a naturally conservative industry, has taken time to accept emerging technologies, but, in some instances, once the initial barrier has been overcome, it em braces the new technology fervently. In what appeared to be in a period of five years, the more technical segments of the industry went from regarding expert systems as too academic to readily adapting expert system technology in their systems. Indeed, sometimes it took only two years from renunciation to practical utilization.
