ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT: New regulations concerning the safety of dams are being published in Spain. This paper compares them to the existing “Code for the design, construction and operation of large dams”, in force since 1967, especially regarding seismic actions to be considered, particularly referring to the stability against sliding of concrete dams. A hypothetical calculation of safety against sliding, based on a real concrete-gravity dam, is made as an example of a preliminary study of the new standards influence on dams in operation, whose safety revision is being undertaken now.
