ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on aesthetic types of lighting — the objects to be lighted and the effects that can be created by utilizing various lighting techniques. Aesthetic lighting can be used in conjunction with other types of lighting to form a unified site lighting scheme. Aesthetics in lighting, as in all forms of design, involves personal taste and an awareness of one’s surroundings. The level of security lighting depends on several factors, ranging from the type of neighborhood a site is in to the actual fear level of the users. Ground fault circuit interrupter or GFIs are required on all outdoor lighting and water-feature circuits. Most lighting designers cover their bases concerning voltage drop by incorporating in their project specifications that the lighting contractor verify line voltage drop to be within an adequate range and to notify the designer of any potential problems that could occur in this area.
