ABSTRACT

Lime-cement columns have since 30 years been widely used in Sweden for stabilisation of soft clay below embankments. However they can also be used for deep excavations to increase the passive earth pressure or decrease the active earth pressure. In this paper, results from FEM analyses for a deep excavation in very soft clay are shown. The columns decrease the wall deflection and ground settlement, as well as the bending moments in the wall during the excavation.
