ABSTRACT

Deep Mixing Method, a deep in-situ stabilization technique using cement and/or lime as a stabilizing agent, is often applied to improve soft soils. Among several improvement patterns the group column type DMM improvement has been extensively applied to improve foundation grounds of lightweight structures. A series of centrifuge model tests was performed to investigate the failure mode of DMM columns and bearing capacity of the column type DMM ground with relatively low improvement ratio. Slip circle calculations were also conducted to investigate the effect of the failure mode of columns on the bearing capacity. In this paper, the test results on the failure mode and the bearing capacity of column type DMMground were described as well as the evaluation of bearing capacity in detail.
