ABSTRACT

An extensive effort has been made to locate all scholarly studies as well as other publicly available information that have substantive, theoretical, and methodological relevance to the topic at hand. Hence, the bibliography to this study represents an exhaustive survey of the literature of political science as well as a review of pertinent studies conducted by specialists in business administration. A Soviet Area Executive has been defined as a senior company executive, stationed in the United States (US), who has exercised prime responsibility for his firm's existing or prospective business relations with the Soviet Union. The complementary procedure was especially helpful in minimizing the number of questionnaires filled out by junior executives or those with little functional responsibility for Soviet business. Finally, it also enabled questionnaire cover letters and envelopes to be addressed individually using the executive's name and correct title; a widely accepted technique for increasing the response rate of mail surveys.
