ABSTRACT

As it does so often, the weather will be playing an important part in forest school sessions. While the nights and the mornings can still be quite cold in May, the daytime temperatures are starting to creep up. As adults we take this in our stride, but children need a bit more guidance. They will be excited to be outside, but they will not necessarily know the risks of too much sun, so a key role for early years workers during the summer months is to be vigilant. Prepare the parents for the extras they will need to supply: hats, water bottles and sun cream. The activities planned for this month can be done at any time, but if the teacher wants the group to sit around telling and recapping stories, she will need weather that is warmer and drier. The teacher can be as creative as she likes and there is no right or wrong way of creating art.
