ABSTRACT

During February, it is important that the teacher's regular visits to their outdoor classroom continue and that the children maintain the enthusiasm they have built up. It's a good month to introduce some new and challenging opportunities. The author introduces the children to tools in this month. It takes their minds away from how cold they may be feeling and serves a purpose, particularly if one need logs to burn and sticks to cook with. The most important element of this month is to take account of the changing and widely diverse weather one is likely to encounter. Additional hazards such as snow, ice and frozen water should be considered. These should not be seen as obstacles, rather as new experiences. Young children learning to walk on icy ground find out about balance and caution. They are also likely to learn that frozen ground hurts when one lands on it!.
