ABSTRACT
The mayfly is a medium-sized insect that is found in a variety of habitats all around the world. In the insect community it is most closely related to the dragonfly and damselfly. Worldwide there are at least 2,500 species of mayfly; in North America alone there are nearly 630 varieties. It is found, exclusively, in or on water and mainly in rivers, lakes or ponds.
