Summary: This chapter will examine the American school experience in the context of global civil rights by examining the effect on schools of the: Civil rights movement and school desegregation; The struggle for equality of educational opportunity by African, Native, Asian, and Hispanic/Latino Americans; Bilingual education; Immigration Act of 1965 and the new American population; Multicultural education; Equality of educational opportunity for women; Textbooks and equality of educational opportunity.
