ABSTRACT

Summary: Economic theories, worries about educational inequalities, religious struggles over school prayer and Bible reading and globalization shaped American schools into the twenty-first century and the Trump era. In the context of globalization and religious concerns, I will discuss the following topics: Free markets, human capital and school choice; School choice and charter schools; School prayer and Bible reading; The growing importance of standardized testing and accountability; The federal legislation No Child Left Behind; Obama, human capital and preschools; Betsy DeVos: Religion and free markets.
