ABSTRACT

In this edited version: The problem-saturated perspective is highlighted in italics. The solution-focused perspective is in bold. Jack is a 22-year-old single manliving at home with his parents. He has an ex-girlfriend, Amy, with whom he has a daughter Ivy (one year old). Amy and Jack never lived together as they were not able to get the money to get a flat for themselves even though Jack was earning good money at the time. They were interested in having a good time and Jack’s mother was fed up with them because she thought they were both very irresponsible and immature. This was made worse when Amy got pregnant and Jack and Amy didn’t go to the hospital until a few weeks before the baby was due. They only went then because Amy was feeling sick and got worried. She decided to get herself 'checked out'.
