ABSTRACT

Questions can be viewed as simply being an integral part of most social conversations. Exploring the skill of questioning as one of the most difficult skills to employ in a therapeutic way. It is a skill that needs to be developed appropriately and applied judicially to avoid undermining the collaborative relationship. Questioning can also be about inviting people into a conversation, being inclusive and even getting down to a level of allowing people the opportunity to discuss their emotions and to give the signal that are ready, willing and able to have that conversation. Closed questions are also useful to refocus the interview or session. Open questions can be delivered in many different ways depending on the tone and the context and, again, as with closed questions, it may not just be the style of questions but how often one use them.
