ABSTRACT

The spirit of science needs nurturing, as otherwise it might weaken due to outside forces from society, which tend to distract young minds. This spirit, together with the inventive sparks, can be nurtured and enhanced by a system of education such as one that integrates science with technology, engineering, and mathematics. Skills and practical experience are important parts of education, especially for science and other technical subjects. Realization and appreciation of scientific concepts and acquisition of technical skills can only come from real practice in observation, exploration, and use of tools of science and technology. Practical experience and skills are needed not only for engineering tasks but also for all areas of experimental science and technology. To nurture the spirit of science, learning based on subject content alone is not enough and can even be discouraging.
