ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how one decodes their data into information that they can visually explore and analyze. Data attributes can be visualized to show the shape of the data and highlight any anomalies. Numeric data can take the form of integers or -point decimals. Integers are used for cnt, registered, and casual users per day. Many of the variables in the data set are coded as categorical variables. This means that there is a non-numeric meaning to the numbers assigned to the variable. There are other data types that are not included in the bike-sharing data dictionary. These include Boolean, geographical, and text data. Each variable has a particular level of measurement related to the encoding of the data. Level of measurement “is a classification proposed in order to describe the nature of information contained within numbers assigned to objects or subjects, therefore within the variable”.
