ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the foundations for safeguarding education. It examines the factors which both prevent and promote disclosures from taking place, meaning that one can go forward with more confidence about how to respond to a potentially life-changing moment. The chapter present an 'activities bank', which one may choose to dip into in order to prepare children who have not previously received safeguarding education, prior to beginning Gymtherapy sessions, to get to grips with the building blocks. It explores the key signs of different types of abuse together. Finally, the chapter presents an overview of this book. The book presents a whistle-stop tour of how the module issues manifest in society, social work theory underpinning said issues, and lesson plans which can be delivered to children in order to help them to achieve knowledge and skills to navigate them.
