ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the effect of NaOH concentration and temperature on the crystallinity and size of ZnO nanostructures. Nanosized ZnO nanostructures were prepared using zinc acetate dihydrate and sodium hydroxide as precursors using soft chemical reflux method. Formation of crystalline phases of ZnO was confirmed by X-ray diffraction. Morphology of as-prepared samples was obtained by scanning electron microscope, which confirms the formation of hexagonal whiskers and rod-like structures having average size of 46 nm. The emission spectra of the as-prepared samples were obtained by photoluminescence which depicts the prominent emission in the region around 420-450 nm. These materials may be used in optoelectronic devices and sensing applications.
