ABSTRACT

Cellulose is the most abundant biopolymer on the earth with the formula (C6H10O5) n . It has been estimated that globally about 1012 t of cellulose are synthesized and destroyed each year. So the effective utilization of cellulose is required. Cellulose is the major component of plant primary cell walls and also produced by some bacteria. Some species of bacteria secrete it to form biofilms. Cellulose content will vary from plant to plant. Cotton contains more than 90% cellulose (Fig. 13.1).1
