ABSTRACT

Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is a common complaint in the adolescent population, with a range of underlying causes. The primary causes of AUB can be divided into structural and nonstructural causes as outlined in the PALM-COEIN system, with nonstructural causes predominating. Among the nonstructural causes, anovulatory cycles and coagulopathy are most common. A variety of hormonal and nonhormonal therapies can be effective in treating menstrual dysfunction related to hormonal dysregulation and coagulopathy. Management is focused on conservative medical therapies first, as use of fertility sparing options are paramount.
