ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the future of private security company involvement with victims of domestic violence. Regardless of any justifiable scepticism of the private security industry and its activities, commercial security providers are likely to play an ongoing role in the lives of victims of domestic violence. Unsolicited inbound calls are often fielded by domestic violence services, while certain organisations are targeted by security companies that have the latest ‘gadget’ or device they want to sell. The value that security companies can offer to victims of domestic violence is also demonstrated by the esteem in which domestic violence organisations hold them. Security companies often amass large amounts of information about a vulnerable population, and it is unclear if their internal data protection policies are adequate. The chapter also presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book.
