ABSTRACT

Knotworking is a new form of collaboration in the construction industry. Knotworking is connected to a co-configuration type of production that can better respond to the changing needs of a client and users than previous collaboration methods. The idea of knotworking was created in Finnish health care projects at the end of the 1990s. A multidisciplinary group of practitioners and researchers introduced the idea of knotworking to construction in a large development and research programme (PRE) organized by the industry from 2010 to 2014. The chapter explains the planning of the knotworking workshop. It describes the introduction of knotworking to the client and users at the knotworking workshop. The chapter outlines the process of designing the alternative architectural and energy plans. Finally, it reports the discussion of alternative designs with the client and the users at the workshop.
