ABSTRACT

Ionic liquids (ILs) are a class of solvents with specific properties and have many advantages in comparison to a classical organic solvent from the standpoint of sustainable green chemistry. Aiming to discuss the potential of ionic liquids for sustainable organic syntheses, we focused on three topics in this chapter: the first is how to use ILs for sustainable organic syntheses and review the recent trend in the use of ILs for organic syntheses, and the second is activating methods for several types of reactions using ionic liquids. The last is application of ILs for enzymatic reactions using typical lipase-catalyzed reactions as a model reaction.
