ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the subject of human factors in deployed military medicine and the educational and training aspects of Operations Telic and Herrick. Human factors are considered because much of the multidisciplinary team training associated with these deployments focused on this area. Most of the courses delivered during both Operation Telic and Operation Herrick were led by those who had recently returned from the conflicts, with input from subject matter experts. The importance of human factors and multidisciplinary training for the teams who were deploying together was recognised and implemented at an early stage. The chapter reviews some of the key courses that personnel attended and summarises the publications that resulted from them. The extensive package of pre-deployment clinical training has been described from Role 1 and pre-hospital care to the rest of the hospital team.
