Is it relevant to study the medieval commerce of East Central Europe in a regional framework? 1 Studying the history of trade relations and the exchange of goods is certainly an applicable approach if someone wishes to reconstruct the role of a particular region in the medieval world. The sources available to a research community affect both the quantity and quality of data and the choice of a suitable research framework. How has the basic information on medieval East Central Europe filtered into the forums of the Anglo-Saxon and German scholarship?
