ABSTRACT
An aerosol consists of particles and the gas in which they are suspended. All aerosols are temporally unstable, i.e., they experience change with the passage of time. Some important aerosol characteristics which can change are: total mass concentration of a contaminant (sum of mass concentrations in the vapor and particle phases), fraction of a contaminant in the particle or vapor phase, and particle size distribution.
