ABSTRACT

Accurate sampling and analysis of gases and vapors requires proper regard for a number of basic factors. The final result can be no better than the weakest link in the series of steps in the procedures used. Among the important factors are the sampling strategy in relation to the objectives of the study, the measurement of the air flows, the convenience and efficiency of the sampling device, proper selection and evaluation of analytical methods, and quality control. The various techniques and instruments available are comprehensively described in the ACGIH manual, Air Sampling Instruments. 1 - 7 This chapter will not attempt to summarize these details, but it will deal with some significant aspects which merit more consideration.
