ABSTRACT

One of the challenges put to us during the drafting of this volume was whether it would be possible to undertake a thorough analysis on the state of the sector, and conclude with some positive remarks about the future. This challenge has been picked up by numerous authors over the past decade. Zandvliet and Anderson’s (2009) Getting it Right has presented a systematic and carefully considered

reference guide for structuring community relations work in corporate settings. Similarly, Reddy et al. (2015) have recently published a reference book offering companies much the same sort of guidance, but on displacement and resettlement. Bice’s book on Responsible Mining (2016) targets companies and regulators, and confirms the continued importance of ethical engagement, governance and accountability.
