ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the first of four specific examples of different relational lives beyond same-sex marriage, viewed in part through the lens of how same-sex marriage has or has not shaped them. This chapter’s focus is an interview with Ignacio Rivera, a “Black-Boricua Taíno, trans, genderfluid or gender non-conforming activist, writer, and performance artist.” Polyamorous and kinky, Rivera shares in this interview their experiences of what they call “connections” beyond the marriage paradigm.
