ABSTRACT

The extant literature has robustly documented the increasing pressures international scholars face when publishing in English. As a strategic investment in improving the quality of their institution’s academic and research production, stakeholders at one Colombian university launched an English for research publication purposes (ERPP) tutoring service, initially supporting the research publication efforts of its PhD students. This chapter documents two cycles of a utilization-focused program evaluation which assessed (i) the extent to which the service was implemented as designed and (ii) the issues that surfaced during implementation that need attention in the future. The program evaluation revealed a need for greater flexibility in provision of support for all levels of scholars in a broader range of professional genres as well as a need for a greater institutionalization of the service.
