ABSTRACT

People at a certain standard of living tend to live with and near others of that same standard of living, not by default but by choice. It is important to note that not all bias against people above certain ages is externally created, although the bias is encouraged by our society. Maturity can be defined as having reached a point in life of emotional and character development consistent with responsible, adult behavior. It is also used euphemistically to describe someone of middle age or more, as in "She was a mature person when she set the mountain climbing ascent record". Maturity is a key aspect of success because it provides perspective, temperance, measured responses, and appropriate situational behavior (there are times to turn the other cheek and times to be healthily outraged). This chapter presents the ingredients of maturity as the author has observed them in thousands of coaching assignments and interactions.
